Opening Ceremony of the XVII Australian Deaf Games 2016

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The XVII Australian Deaf Games 2016 were officially launched in Adelaide on Saturday 9th January with a vibrant Opening Ceremony held at the SA Netball Stadium. The Opening Ceremony included the Athletes' Parade, showcasing the teams of competitors taking part in the Games from each Australian State and New Zealand. Also taking part for the first time in the Games this year are the team from Fiji, who were given a particularly warm welcome from the eager crowd viewing the Athletes' Parade on Saturday.

The Opening Ceremony was a fantastic event incorporating members from Deaf communities and groups from all over Australia. The Australian National Anthem was performed in Auslan, there was a cultural dance performed by representatives from Fiji, and a dynamic performance by the Deaf Kids and Cirkidz groups.

Ai-Media, a proud sponsor of the Australian Deaf Games, provided live captioning of the Opening Ceremony event. Ai-Media will also be captioning other key events and activities throughout the Games that are running from 9th January - 17th January. We also have a stall at the Games Hub at Adelaide High School being run by Jen Wardle, who is attending the Games as a representative of Ai-Media. Feel free to stop by and have a chat to her about captioning and accessibility. Jen is sporting our Ai-Live t-shirts and should be easy to spot!
