Jorja was fitted with hearing aids five weeks ago, when a specialist noticed that her hearing was getting worse. According to Jorja's mother, Melissa, the first thing Jorja said when she found out she was going deaf was “I won’t be able to hear Taylor Swift sing”. Maitland girl Jorja Hope’s one wish before she goes deaf has come true - she will meet her idol Taylor Swift.
Jorja recently found out she was going to lose her hearing and was devastated that she would no longer be able to hear Taylor Swift sing. The 12-year-old has a condition that causes progressive, inner-ear hearing loss. There is no timeframe for when she will become deaf, just the certainty that it will happen.
Her twin sister Chloe started a campaign to help Jorja meet Swift at her Sydney concert later this month. The Mercury jumped on board to help the girls out and before long the #HelpJorjaMeetTaylorSwiftSydney and the campaign had gone viral.
A Sydney radio station, Nova 96.9, picked up the story and decided to help. The sisters travelled to Sydney for what they thought was a studio tour. Instead they were told live on air that they would get to meet Swift and Jorja was left absolutely speechless.
Their mother, Melissa Hope, said neither of the girls had any idea about the surprise.
“It was amazing,” she said. “Both girls were just so so thankful to everybody who helped make Jorja’s dream come true.” For Jorja, Swift’s music has given her the strength to overcome her hardships. “Taylor Swift is a really good singer and a good role model,” Jorja said. “When she gets knocked down she knows how to get back up again.”
Jorja said Chloe should get a sister-of-the-year award for making her dreams come true.
